La Bulla y Restos took place in the USC MFA Gallery in Los Angeles from September 21-October 3rd, 2013. The show contained sculptural installations and videos ranging from atmospheric loops to non-documentary recordings of musicians, dancers, and writers living on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. This live performance was a magically real adaptation of melodies and lyrics from the bullerengue music in the videos. The word “bulla” doesn’t translate perfectly into English, but represents an idea of the noise and activity generated by groups of people. Kind of like a ruckus, hustle and bustle, or an uproar. Restos are the remainders.
